Hello and welcome to this week’s post where we highlight things of interest happening all over the web-sphere.
This week on our blog we had a guest post from Virtue Ministry which looked into the need for a cultivation of virtue in our society today. It is an issue that seems to be misunderstood at best in our culture today, even to the point of faith filled people not quite understanding what is meant by it. We thought that we might have a look around and give you some links on this topic. It seems like early in the year is a good time to think about how best we can live out our lives.
This link gives us a good summary into what we mean by virtue. The Dominican Students in the UK one year all wrote posts on what specific virtues really were.
Mary of course is the Queen of Virtue and she give women a really wonderful example of how to live out our lives. This article looks at women’s natural inclination towards certain virtues and how this assists her in her vocation and also assists men in their own desire for virtue.
For those wishing to delve deeper into this topic there are some marvelous book out there that look at not only what virtues are, but how they lead you to God and how we need them in our current culture. Three really excellent examples are listed below.

Of course, as fallen beings, virtue is not always a clear, cut and dried topic. For those already with an interest in this field and in the human condition, First Things has an interesting article this month on the paradoxes of virtue.
Changing the topic, there is an event in the US with Bishop Robert Baron and they are live streaming it. It ends up being something like 2pm this Sunday afternoon. They have partnered with the Archdiocesan Office for Marriage and Family to bring you the Topic this year of : Love and Life: Finding the Answers. The event it sponsored by the Melbourne Archdiocesan Office for Youth and Catholic Vocations.
