When I kneel to light a fire it always fascinates me that I am not entirely sure when it will start. When that single little flame will slowly multiply, find enough kindling and then enough heat to engulf the wood waiting to be burned. That a roaring fire starts with the simple action of striking a match.
It is also the image I have when I think of the famous prayer to the Holy Spirit:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love.
Love, even love for God Himself, needs to start somewhere. Something small. Something seemingly inconsequential to all the confusion around it. Once this love takes hold, God can engulf our heart and do great things through us.
When we are faced with crisis, the idea of prayer might feel almost laughable. It sounds so disconnected. So passive. So simplistic.
However, our history is strewn with examples of men and women who did great things with God. However, they all first started out with prayer.
Daily.
Habitual.
Prayer.
Learning to know and love God and therefore understand how they could best serve Him. What they were born to do.
October is the month of the Rosary. A prayer that helps us to get to know the person of Christ through Mary. The prayer that Mary herself has asked us to pray every day. The prayer that she has told us can save the world.
Don’t you feel like our world has a great need of saving right now?
What if for the month of October we all banded together to pray the Rosary every day for each other, our families, our priests and our Church? I wonder what could happen?
To help us do this we have asked 20 women all around Australia of different ages and in different stages of life to write us a reflection on a mystery of the Rosary.
From the 1st October we will send you out an email to prompt you to say the Rosary and will send you a reflection. We hope to help you as you meditate on the life of Christ as you pray and to renew your enthusiasm for this prayer. We all need a little reminder every now and again!
Would you like to sign up? Click here and send us your email. Please remember that the email might go to your junk mail folder or one of the other folders. Remember to change the settings so that you will see it every day!
We have also collected together a couple of beautiful items which we want to give away! We will draw out a name on the 1st October from those who sign up for the email.
Included is a women’s bible study on the Rosary called “Ponder” from Take Up and Read
A small Rosary devotional book from Do Small Things With Love
Two sets of gorgeous Rosary Beads from Brisbane based Radiant Rosaries
And an artwork print from Sydney dwelling artist, Alessandra Doyle.
Perhaps this concerted effort of prayer could be that one small thing can ‘kindle in us the fire of [God’s] love’. A place of love from which God can move seemingly unmovable mountains.
As St Catherine of Siena said,” If you are what you should be you will set the world ablaze.”
